If you logged into NightCafe everyday and created 1 free image and followed all the tips below, in a year you’d accumulate over 7,300 NightCafe credits for free. NightCafe Studio is a popular AI art generator app/website which you can use for free to generate high quality AI art using Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 (SDXL 1.0) and DALLE 2.

I say in theory because to gain free credits on NightCafe you have to put in a little effort, so it’s not actually free: you are spending your time, but it’s free in money terms. As a free user (non-Pro user) you currently (March 2024) do not gain access to DALLE-3 (DALLE-3 was recently added to NightCafe Studio), the new Creative Upscaler or the LORAS (addons which makes things glitter, adds runes or has a specific style).
If you just want to use a free AI art generator and can’t be bothered jumping through a few hoops (see later) for free daily credits, there’s also the option to use the older Stable Diffusion 1.5 models like DreamShaper 8 (doesn’t cost credits, so completely free, the quality of the results are mixed) or the free Stable Diffusion 1.4 model (the results tends to be not that good IMHO).
Is NightCafe Studio Really Free?

Yes, it’s free. To put things into perspective I started using the NightCafe AI art generator in late November 2023 (3 months ago) and currently have 4,600 credits available. I’ve created almost 2,000 images and have enhanced (made them bigger which costs 3 credits per image) about 200 images. I’ve probably used over 2,000 credits.
I used the AI image generator to create images for two eBooks (will be releasing them via Kickstarter soon). Those images account for around 1,000 of my AI image creations.
I wasn’t aware of the tips to gain free credits (see below) for the first month or so, so bought 2,800 NightCafe credits for around $50 (there was a Christmas sale). This gave me one month of Pro access as well: I could use the LORAS. Note: DALLE-3 and the Upscaler wasn’t part of NightCafe at the time.
In the month of Pro usage I barely used the LORAS, so if I’d had known how to gain free credits I wouldn’t have needed to buy any credits to generate the majority of the 2,000 images I’ve made so far.

Taking all the above into account I’ve gained over 4,000 free credits and used around 2,000. So had I not bought 2,800 NightCafe credits I’d probably have around 2,000 free credits available to me now.

I’m afraid you’ll need to have gained 50 followers before this is worth doing. A lot of NightCafe users will do simple comments like “Nice”, “Awesome”, “Good One” etc… that’s enough, so it doesn’t take long.
That’s 1,825 credits per year.
These 5 free credits results in a lot of NightCafe users liking and commenting on Newbies creations. So if you are about to signup for NightCafe Studio take into account for the first 7 to 10 days (not sure of exact timing) all your new creations will gain extra likes and comments. This is the time to gain followers by publishing a lot of images.
My wife joined NightCafe just under a month ago and had the benefit of my knowledge and so posted frequently: she uses a completely free NightCafe account, never bought any credits.

In the first week or so she gained hundreds of followers and one of her images accumulated almost 900 likes thanks to the Newbie effect.
My wife uses these tips and has generated enough free credits to produce over 1,400 images and currently has 915 credits. That means she has gained over 2,200 free NightCafe credits in under a month. Averages at 78 credits gained a day. NightCafe also rewards free credits for various milestones like 100 credits for gaining 500 followers, 250 credits for gaining 1,000 followers, 30 credits for gaining 100 comments. NightCafe rewards a LOT of free credits when you first start using the platform.

That’s 730 credits per year.

First, add your Instagram username to your NightCafe account. You won’t get the free credits if you don’t do this. Share an image you created on NightCafe Studio on Instagram and mention @NightCafeStudio.
You can share up to 1 AI generated images per day on Instagram or TikTok (see next tip) for a total of 3 free credits a day (that’s a total of 3 free credits shared between Instagram and TikTok shares). I’m afraid your account must have 50 followers before you gain your free credits.
That’s 1,095 credits per year.
Note: Instagram doesn’t like it when you use the same mentions over and over again (like adding @NightCafeStudio to all your Instagram posts). My wife had this issue with a new Instagram account. Even after gaining over 250 followers she still finds Instagram doesn’t like it when she only shares posts with the @NightCafeStudio mention. She’s been posting old photos to get around this issue.
Tip 6 – NightCafe TikToker

The six tips above come to a total of 47 free credits per day. That’s 17,155 credits per year.
Update: Due to NightCafe reducing the number of credits available via Instagram/TikTok the numbers per day reduce significantly. The six tips above come to a total of 20 free credits per day. That’s 7,300 credits per year.
NightCafe updated some of the other free credit rewards, but they aren’t daily. For example the 5 Day Streak (see below) was increased from 5 free credits to 25 free credits every 5 days. They also increased some of the other rewards for creating an image every day for 30 days, 100 days, 200 days and 365 days. See below.
More NightCafe Free Credits
As mentioned earlier NightCafe is generous in rewarding free credits for milestones etc…
5 Day Streak – 25 free credits every 5 days for creating 1 image a day for 5 days. In other word login once a day and create at least one image (it can even be a free image using the completely free models). If you mange to achieve this for a full year the number of credits doubles to 50 free credits ever 5 days.
The free credits below are one offs, AKA NOT repeatable.

There’s plenty of other ways to gain one off free credits related to followers, gaining comments, how many likes your creations gain, from entering the daily challenges etc… As long as you are active and follow the tips above you should never need to pay for NightCafe credits.
